Society for Rural Education and Development is planning to develop an Ecological Farm by involving Dalit women at Palavoy. Nowadays, many Dalit women are in danger to lose their job by unsustainable farming with use of chemicals, or terminator seeds that are developed by Transnational Agribusiness Corporation. Also, women farmers, landless the community as a whole needs healthy food.

Ecological Farm at Palavoy will become a self-sustaining Farm. A farm design has been drawn with an ecological sense. The management of the farm will be done by the committee that consists with 10 people of workers of SRED and village leaders. Also, studies concerning to technical issues- trees, field crops, vegetables, herbals, soil, compost and water will be done by trained women in village. Nursery service is also prepared. Village Farms are created collectively with women farmers by using wastelands that will be acquired and distributed to women who are members of RWLM.

We are looking forward to getting your support and solidarity for women's efforts towards the sustainable and human-hearted farming!! (Please also visit our "Actions" page; there are some reports on food sovereignty)

childrenAlthough the Constitution of India says that all the person has a right to get education, Dalits can hardly provide a competitive education environment to their children. Dalit children often neglected are forced to become child labourers along with other family members. At times there are many school drop-outs. Even if Dalit children could go to the school, public schools cannot offer safe educational environment to Dalit children. Dhanam, a seventh standard Dalit girl was brutally attacked by her teacher for drinking water from the pot kept for other caste students- and she lost her one eye in the attack.

Not only Dalit children, but also children in tribal families and Quarry workers' families are in similar situation. When families remain as bonded labourers, when parents have to take a children to quarry work place because of lack of finance to prepare for their study, families migrate seeking for their lands... children's right to education is denied.

To combat these circumstances, SRED, some civil movements, and other unorganised peoples have decided to step into the field of child education. So far we gained experiences in the field of non-formal education with people's movement, and now, we are planning to establish day-care centre (elementary educational institution) for children in villages. We are looking forward to getting your support for our struggle towards the education for liberation!!
