Why a Video Film ?

Although with Timesoft the use of video film is not mandatory. If one still prefers to do the study directly on the shop floor he can use a Laptop or Palmtop with the program installed in it. Why I emphasize on using a video film is because with a film Timesoft reduces the otherwise tedious task of Time & Motion Study to more or less fun of a computer game with the operator watching the film on his computer and just clicking at the right time.

There are many added advantages answering why one should invest in making video films for Time & Motion study –

  • Permits a greater detailing and finer breakdown of the operation if required, for a better study.

  • Provides a greater accuracy.

  • It is almost essential in case of long and complex cycles.

  • Provides greater convenience and flexibility. The task of time & motion study can be completed at any place at any time irrespective of the working hours. Also the film can be stopped, run backward/forward and repeated as often required which is not possible otherwise. This greatly increases the efficiency of the operator.

  • Provides a much greater portability as the video tapes can be sent anywhere. They can be continently viewed by method analyst, tool designer, process designer and other experts and even the worker himself.

  • Provides a true and permanent record of the job method.

  • The film could be useful for making a presentation in front of senior officials for suggesting or showing the improvements and also for training purpose.
