As per Oxford dictionary

Psyche means: THE SOUL, THE SPIRIT or THE MIND

Psychology means: The study of the mind and How does it work;

Mental Characteristics

The part I would like to stress upon is that when we collect data two of the methods employed are

a.                                                                                                                                                         Observational

b.                                                                                                                                                         Census

All aspects of psychology are based on certain Hypothesis, a perception of a great individual. Then this individual performs an Experiment or Survey. Usually he uses a closed ended Questionnaire as it serves his interest better. Once the result is published it becomes the Biblical manna, as business world is desperate to change contrary to common perception. Of course people have become a bit skeptical, as things haven’t delivered as they were supposed to do. Reasons behind this are very obvious.

1.       Chronology – Most of the data available is outdated. It is based on research done on people who were hardly educated. There was a mammoth difference between Nobel and common people then. Implementing data derived from these research is in our companies today is insane.

2.       Unrealistic Tests – The tests are based on past research and haven’t been updated as per the new times. It is still administered with a belief that everything about the individual who takes the test can be identified. Take for example MBTI. If it were administered in an organization of 1600 employees at least 100 people would be of the same type if not more. Have we ever come across two people with the same attributes in a lifetime?

3.       Mushrooming New Jargons –Instead of adding what has been already worked upon, people using their creativity derive new concepts by fudging the old ones. Let me compare for you Transactional Analysis and Neuro Linguistic Programming.

As per Berne we have a Parent ego, Child ego, Adult ego.

Parent ego involves instruction passed on to us. It isn’t any learning or experience of the individual. On the contrary these are learning’s (or experience) of any individual in the Past which is coming down generation after generation.

Child ego is experiences registered by an individual but aren’t defined i.e. we haven’t used any language/words to characterize this. To understand this we need to understand how the Brain records information. Brain records information in the form of    visuals. Any repetition of the situation forces us to react in the same way.

Adult ego involves analyzes of a situation and then reacting.

NLP doesn’t boost of anything new. In this

Neuro represents the way our mind processes a given data.

Linguistic represents the way brain communicates with its environment.

Programming represents the way we shall react to a given situation at a given time and every time. It’s a mere convergence of Parent ego and child ego.
