Not long back it was believed that machines would replace human in every activity. Fortunately nothing of this sort happened. In fact work of human being has changed from mere Physical to more Knowledge centric. This is more a feature of Knowledge based industry.

Companies interested in retaining the best talents need to benchmark with the best in the industry with respect to

1. Compensation

2. Work Environment

3. Social Safety net

This also ensures that the morale of the employees is kept high. Human Beings are the only assets in the organization that grows with time (skill and intellect). The law of land requires minimum work standards are maintained across the industry but it is just ensures no one is exploited. Any dispute arising in this respect is to be reconciled in the manner stated by the law. As per the law any dispute pertaining to Employee-Employer relationship Law of Natural Justice should be adhered too. These are

1. That every person who’s Civil rights is affected must have a reasonable notice of the case he has to meet.

2. He must have reasonable opportunity of being heard in his defense

3. The hearing must be by an important tribunal i.e. a person who is neither directly or indirectly part a party to the case

4. The authority must act in good faith, not arbitrarily but reasonably.

Other than this the culture of the company must be transparent in its working. It should give equal opportunities to all its employees irrespective of caste, creed, sex etc. All this means that you are no different from others in market and you stand at Risk of loosing best of your talent to others. Add to this every time you would have to depend on others for assistance whenever your company goes for new initiatives or when someone important leaves the organisation.

So it actually makes business sense to invest in the development of the employees. This would motivate them to contribute more than what their jobs demand of them. This was seen in the case of Reliance refinery in Jamnagar when it got flooded. The employees irrespective of their jobs and position cleared up the debris from the premises. The other achievement was that they did this in lesser time and in a more cost effective manner as compared to a Swiss company, which had offered its services to the company.
