In Mandrakelinux, the display of Hindi is being done by using
Open Type Hindi Unicode Fonts. It's a standardized font format that
includes information about the substitution of character sequences with
glyphs; for example if you have "ka, virama, ka" the font has in its
table that that sequence corresponds to a single special "kka" glyph.
All Hindi-enabled versions of Mandrakelinux
comes with RaghuHindi Font. This is a Open Type Unicode Hindi Font and
it can be downloaded from here.
If you have chosen the "Hindi Language"
during Initial Installation of Mandrakelinux, then this will be
available automatically
on your system. This font can be made as Default in the Graphical
Desktop Environments e.g. Gnome, KDE etc. For better display and
rendering, Gnome Environment is better.
You can install any other Unicode Hindi fonts on your systems using
Drakefonts. In the available fonts, DVBOTSurekh is a excellent font.
This can be downloaded from here.
