Editor
Many i18n Editors are included in Mandrakelinux Operation System. The
main editors are: GEdit, Kwrite and Yudit. All these Editors are
properly displaying Hindi Text. With the help of Hindi Devanagari
Key-board, Hindi Text can be typed in GEdit, Kwrite etc. Personally I
prefer to use the Hindi Phonetic Key-board. It is EASY, and for this
there is no need to remember the Key-board Map.
Use Yudit and type in the same manner as speak. For
example, to write one has to type hindI. This is an Open i18n Editor
and it can be downloaded from here.
The user of Mandrakelinux can install this by choosing the Yudit RPM
either at the time of Initial Installation or by using "Install
Software Packages" Menu Option. The snap-shot show here is of Hindi
version of Mandrake Control Center under Mandrakelinux 10.0 Community
and where the Installation of Yudit is shown.
After the
completion of Yudit, you will find a directory named ".Yudit/fonts"
under your Home Directory. Copy the "raghu.ttf"
file from "/usr/share/fonts/otf/mdk"
directory to this directory. Now start the Yudit by selecting it from
the menu and select the [ ? Input (F1..f12) ] option from the top-bar.
From the Available Kmaps select Devanagari and put it on your choice of
Function Key. To know the Key-combinations for the letters, see inside
the Key-Input/Output under the Input (F1..F12) Option.
Yudit is now ready
for Hindi-Writing!
